Tiger Tank DVD

SAVING THE TIGER 131 DVDimage:[BOVTM_TigerDVD]

The story of the Tiger 131 possibly the most remarkable tank tale ever told.

Captured on the battlefield in Tunisia in 1943 in unusual circumstances, it was soon shipped back to England for assessment, completely dismantled and gutted, it was later given to The Tank Museum, Bovington, where in 1992 an ambitious project was launched to restore the tank to full running order.

The film tracks the final months of the project as engineers race against time to restore the tank’s 60 year-old Maybach engine to running order for the Museums Tankfest. The DVD contains exclusive sequences showing the restored tank-the only operational Tiger anywhere in the world-going through its paces.

Besides the story of Tiger 131, the film provides a fascinating historical insight into the development of the Tiger and its impact on the battlefield.

There’s also unique WW2 footage of Tigers in action plus interviews with veterans who fought against them, including one of the foremost authorities on the Tiger – Peter Gudgin – whose Churchill tank was knocked out by Tiger 131 itself in its last action in 1943.
